Germany has banned cultivation of genetically modified corn from Monsanto. The reason for this is that they claim that the corn, MON 810, is dangerous for the environment.
We welcome this bold desicion from German authorities and hope that other countries will follow shortly. Some newsmagazines state that the ban might not stand up in court. We have another opinion on this issue. If Germany use the simple fact that it is impossible for the farmer to prevent the patented genes from Monsanto to spread into conventional corn fields, then they should have a strong case.
Here is a document which describe why Germany banned the Monsanto MON 810 corn (PDF in German).
